Lets know what GRE & TOEFL/IELTS are. GRE is an adaptive computer based test generally about 3 hrs long and consists of the Verbal , Quant and Essay section. It is scored out of 170 for the Verbal, 170 for Quant and 6 for Essay. Preparing, practicing and acing the GRE exam should not take more than 3 months of time, if you time it well. This also has a vocabulary requirement for which you have to take out regular time. Scoring in the Quant section should be easy as almost all of you would have take a lot of maths courses growing up. Verbal section needs the most practice which eventually eases out as you get confidence with the vocabulary. Essay sections are generally Issue based and Argument based where you can easily elaborate on the topic presented to you. Each Uni might have threshold cutoff requirement for the application process which has eased off over the years and nowadays most of the Unis have even removed the requirement of the GRE exam. Moving on to the TOEFL/IELTS exam, preparing for these take considerably lesser time than the GRE about 1-2 weeks. They consist of four sections namely, the Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Each of the sections have a specific method to approach about which you can find online. The TOEFL is scored out of 30 for each section. While the IELTS is scored out of band of 9.0 for each section. Each Uni has a unique requirement for the TOEFL/IELTS and also a section wise minimum required score. You can either take the TOEFL or the IELTS and both have the same level of difficulty and equally acceptable at all Unis.
